The pace of business change continues to accelerate at an increasing rate. This results in enormous pressure on the organisation to continue delivering business value in line with business expectations. Organisations’ are recognising the need to create disciplines that ensure alignment of initiatives with business strategy.
Companies must maintain the ability to provide solutions to clients effectively, not only to grow its business, but to survive. There is a real business risk should projects fail, this could result in:

A summary of the objective of a Project Office is to:
- Ensure strategic alignment of the internal project portfolio within company strategy
- Improve benefit realisation with the monitoring of benefits realised throughout the project and after project closure
- Perform regular governance assurance and health checks on programme and projects thereby ensuring the adherence to governance
- Improved consolidated management reporting on project progress, status as determined in health checks, benefit realisation and risk issues and concerns
- To define, create and implement standardised governance on project methodology, processes, procedures, standards, templates, best practises and lessons learned and to maintain it in a central repository. This is based on world wide best practise as defined by Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) or PRINCE2 TM.
- Baselining and charting a continuous improvement path for Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM)
- Establish career path development for project staff
- Establish knowledge management with the capability of storing and retrieving information and best practices from a central repository
- Implement tools catering for the requirements of the project teams and the agreed project management methodology

In our experience we have found that the project office becomes the ‘hub’ of the project acting as a repository for project standards, policies, processes and relevant methodologies that improve the performance of the project. This ensures that the organisation is able to manage their full portfolio of projects and becomes a single point of contact for all information related to project activity across the entire organisation.
PMAcademy has extensive experience in developing and implementing project offices that meet and exceed the needs of the organisation and the specific project.
