PROGRAMME AND PROJECT HEALTH CHECK

Is the health of your project keeping you awake at night? Don’t panic PM Academy have the solution to your health warning!
Here at PM Academy we believe that a project exists to deliver on its objectives and if it fails to meet each of those objectives, it has failed, even if it has been delivered on time, within budget and meets quality measures.
Project health checks can be completed at any stage of the project from inception to project completion. Project health checks can either be based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) or PRINCE2.
The aim of a project health check is to get an independent assessment on how well the project is performing. Typically the following topics are reviewed:
- Business Case
- Scope
- Controls and Governance
- Organisation and Stakeholder Management
- Plans and Performance management
- Risks and Issues
- Project Quality
- Procurement
- Configuration Management
- Communication

PM Academy recommends that a series of health checks be planned over the life span of the project as they provide an early indication that problems could be threatening the effectiveness of the project. It also keeps the team in check and encourages them to maintain good project management practices from the inception of the project and not just for the end project review.
Normally the Project Health check is completed with the project managers and organisations key stakeholders. PM Academy can assist in checking the health of the whole project or focus on a specific aspect of your programme or project. We work closely with the project team to ensure that all relevant aspects of the project are identified and reviewed and there are a number of benefits that can be derived from checking the health of your project.
PM Academy has identified the following potential benefits of a Project Health Check.
- Practical solutions to improve the effectiveness of the project delivery team
- Improved visibility on the progress of critical paths and projects
- Clarification of roles, responsibilities and accountabilities within the project team
- Independent and comprehensive review of the project operations
- Reduction in the time required for the end project review
- A high impact, hard hitting end of project review
