OVERVIEW

Project failure in the public sector could represent a significant impact on executing strategy and service delivery for government and municipalities. Public sector project management offers unique challenges as project delivery is very visible and open to public scrutiny. This Public Sector project management training course has been designed to address the need for Government employees to acquire fundamental project management skills tailored to the Public Sector.

The course provides delegates with the fundamentals of project management which include the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements.

We then build on these skills in order to teach you how to accomplish successful Project management through the use of processes such as: initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing.

The emphasis of this Public Sector course is establish the underlying theory of project management but most importantly the application of project management to Government project delivery. The project management training course accommodates the relevant acts and legislation such as the:

  • Public Services Act
  • Municipal Systems Act
  • Public Finance Management Act
  • Batho-Pele White Paper on Transforming Public Sector Service Delivery

This project management course will provide you with fundamental project management skills to successfully deliver Government project whilst focusing on stakeholder management, time, budget and cost.

This Public Sector Project management course will benefit all government officials responsible or involved in public sector project delivery.

PRE-REQUISITE LEARNING

Course delegates should preferably have some experience in a project environment.

COURSE CONTENT

The course is based on the Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) and aligned to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) Unit Standard identification number 242914 ‘Apply the principles and theories of Public Sector Project Management’:

  • Introduction to Project Management
  • Project Scope and Integration Management
  • Project Time Management and Cost Management
  • Project Quality and Human Resources Management
  • Project Communications and Risk Management
  • Project Procurement Management and Leadership

COURSE DURATION & DELIVERY

The course is an intensive 5 day course. Delegates receive learner guides with relevant information to cover the specific outcomes, essential embedded knowledge and cross-field outcomes.

Exercises, projects, self-tests, group exercises and role-plays will also be provided. Delegates will be required to compile a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) and will be assessed through the following method:

  • A formative practical exercises assessment
  • An open-book summative theoretical assessment
  • A summative practical assessment based on the application to a Public Sector project.
  • The POE must be submitted 1 week after course delivery.

The project management course may be delivered at our premises or alternatively we also tailor the course to be delivered in-house with adequate attendees.
